You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day. We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire. The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy. Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest. We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

Hey TorontoRock.

Yes, it is definitely possible to climb the ranks into the top 25 using solely 0-year wins. You would need quite a few games, but as you've seen, these sort of games are very quick. If you want to test it out, you could make another character, and use it for just 0-year wins, while you still use your main character for the large games. I think the next medal for victories is for 250 wins. Also, remember that posting a defeat will actually lower your score.

Quick question. Does anyone know if the next victory medal after 100 wins is when you hit 200 wins?

The next achievement is indeed at the 250 mark.

Not very satisfying I'm sure but doable?

I find these games a welcome break to the all abundant gigas. Obviously yes i was able to get into the Top 25 with ZYW's, i'm actually 17th atm...1 in front of a certain devilcat....

, but they are enjoyable as opposed to the grind of a giga.

The way these scores will degrade the real challenge is staying in the top 25 just by doing ZYW's.

I have pretty much perfected the technique now and with the right starting position and bonuses and a few little tricks i have worked out along the way, i have managed to break 30K for a ZYW. 32900K is my highest so far....i hope to break that too.

What scores you guys getting with ZYW's?

I've seen scores anywhere from 13k-25k from the Kzinti who have submitted ZYWs. I didnt notice you passed me up Neilo...congrats! ZYWs wouldnt benefit me very much, considering my previous scores with any of my characters, unless I could start getting 30k+ per game like you. Perhaps I'll try a bit with my character I use for lower-scoring games now...

Is one of your tactics to beef up the scores for these games adding in a few minor civs to conquer?

One of my goals is match Gallaghers's achievment of having all three of my characters in the top 25, and I'd like to do it without the ZYW gimmick, but we'll see. I'm relatively close to that goal right now!

I see it the same way as you neilo with regards to the ZYW's. I to got most of the way to 25th place by doing the Gigantic maps and it's nice to do quick ZYW games when I'm tired and don't feel like getting into a "real" game but still want to work towards a medal achievment.
I have also experienced what you were talking about KzinPat about losses lowering your score. After I got to 332 000+ points and into 25th place for my medal, I decided to grab my purple heart medal by losing five quick games. Went from 332 000 to 315 000 pretty quick hehe. Ah well, at least I got the medal I wanted, although I noticed that it doesn't show up on the boards (

. It would be nice to have more medal types to shoot for. I find that aspect of the metaverse kinda fun.
I've noticed that you use The altarians for your ZYW's neilo which means you use transports and such. I've only been able to to it with spore ships so far. Have you tried it with those yet and if so do you find them easier for ZYW's?

Neilo is very good at coming up with effective ways to modify the stock races and use combinations of skills and abilities, so I'm guessing he is playing Altarians but with the Korath spore ability. You are playing DA, so you can do this within the game interface when you are starting a game. You could either make a completely new custom race, or modify one of the stock ones. I always play custom races, partially because I like fiddling around with the skills and bonuses, and partially for flavor. I play as the Kzinti about 1/2 the time and various other custom races the other half.

It is always nice to have some more bling on your posts!

That's strange that the purple heart medal isnt showing up. I wonder if other people have experienced this too.

TorontoRock, yeah, that pesky Purple Heart; its a nice one but its gonna cost ya. I earned mine too, but I wish I had waited until I had gotten 100 games completed. By then the score loss wouldn't be as significant.

I play with 8 minors on these games not so much to conquer but to tech whore to for funds. Having cash right up till April 8th, the date i win on, is crucial, but i do at times invade some. I will invade if i am too far away from the AI and i need a range boost or if i have an extra ship laying around after taking out the AI.

Yeah i got to i think 44 without using ZYW's and at that time i had just finished a giga for one of my other characters and was really burnt out on the game. the ZYW initially was my way of getting back into the game, but as i played them i saw the value in them. The problem is though, the score degredation, these games are only worth 3.5K-4K each so after 6 months they will be essentially worthless. So my current goal is just to maintain my spot in the top 25 with ZYW's and see how long i can do that for.

Eventually, you will reach a point where even submitting a new game will actually lower your score due to the way the MV setup is. Admittedly, its at a very high number but you will notice increasingly diminishing returns. Even by the time you reach 50 games a score of 20K will only net you about 3K-4K growth.

You do have to watch using the ZYWs with a big map character. I had a character with three big games on it for a total MV score of around 280K. I put two ZYWs on that character and dropped his overall to 260K due to the extra two games degrading all the games scores more than the ZYWs were adding. Now I don't do that with the big map characters anymore

Yeah I did that even before the advent of the ZYWs. I have one character each for medium, large, and huge maps. Lately though, I bumped up the medium to large, as I wasnt getting enough of an increase with each game, and I may upgrade from large to huge with Devilcat as well. I wont upgrade from huge to gigantic til I get more RAM though.

Some news from the other end of the scale / ranking ladder

This thread reminds me that I still have to attempt my first 0 year victory...
Currently playing a few quick tiny games in order to get that racial victory medal.
2-3 more games should bring me to fleet captain as well as bump me at least 100 places (assuming some 60 players rise faster than I do) to the mid 600's.
I guess that when I ever have enough time -and patience- I should give the large galaxies a go, the impact of one of those games is at least the same as 5 tiny or small ones.

The ZYWs are definitely quick....anywhere from 15-40 minutes from what I have seen from various people. Once you get the process down you could do them very quickly I'm sure. If you want to try a bigger map, maybe start with medium and see how you like it. If it wasnt for wanting higher scores, that would probably be my favorite map size.

I dont think too many people have the racial medal....good luck!
